Dr Simon Smale

CHEC Clinical Director of Gastroenterology and Consultant Gastroenterologist

Dr Simon Smale is a highly experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist with a strong academic background. He completed his medical training at Nottingham Medical School and gained early clinical experience at Queens Medical Centre and Northampton.

He furthered his expertise in London, working under the mentorship of renowned specialists such as Professor Dame Carol Black and the late Dr. Ian Forgacs. Following his higher specialist training, Simon secured his first consultant appointment in York in 2005 and later moved to Manchester in 2018 to focus on functional gastroenterology and the microbiome.

Simon has also held the position of Clinical Director for GI Medicine and Surgery at Manchester Foundation Trust, demonstrating his leadership skills and commitment to improving patient care.

With a proven track record as a trustee in the charitable sector, an entrepreneur, and a clinician, Simon is passionate about utilising technology and process improvement to enhance the patient experience. He joined CHEC in September 2024 and is excited to collaborate with the team to develop innovative community gastroenterology services.
